Music Notes

February 2010

Happy February, everyone! I’ll bet you think that this month I’ll list the top love songs, explain the origins of Valentine’s Day, or something like that. Nope. Not gonna do it. Valentine’s Day gets enough press as it is. This month I’ve decided to celebrate February’s next famous feature. It is the shortest month of the year. So without further ado, here’s a list of other short things:

Shortest Ever Beatles Song: “Her Majesty”, from Abby Road. 24 seconds long.

Shortest Ever NBA Player: Jack “Soapy” Shapiro, who played with the Staten Island      Stapletons in 1929 was 5’1/2” tall.

Shortest Ever Recorded Song: “You Suffer”, by Napalm Death, has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the shortest recorded song ever, clocking in at 1.319 seconds long. It has a good beat, and it’s easy to dance to.

Shortest Ever Adult Male To Have a Number One Top 40 Hit: East London rapper Tinchy Stryder, at 5’1”tall,  hit No. 1 in April, 2009.

Shortest Ever Super Bowl Commercial: EELS Corp. produced a five second ad announcing “Useless Trinkets out now”, then cut the spot to one second to air during the 2008 Super Bowl. If you blinked, you missed it.

Shortest Ever Person: According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the shortest person ever was Gull Mohammad, who stood a towering 22 ½ inches tall.

I could go on, but we’ll keep it short…
